Overland afloat

Mediteranean Sea, Turkey (Asia Minor) (Last few Years)
by smiffy14876

Hello again fellow travellers, thought I might post a link to my recently compiled collection of travel stories. I have not got all of them up yet as I need to get some images uploaded to improve the scribbles but the recent ones are now complete.

We are on our way to Turkey to check out the situation for interior travel. I dont want to drive all the way there to find out they have to many restrictions. Yachts are far more welcome in most places but they have been accomodating us for years and know how to charge! Current fuel cost in the Greek Islands is €1.66 per litre (petrol) €1.38 Diesel, so dont complain about the cost of fuel in the UK. In Turkey we are told that Diesel is about €1.50!

We will stay for the winter this year and make plans for the following years if we decide to come back in the truck. Africa is the only place we have been that is affordable for reasonable liveaboard/overland travel, the Euro zone has gone mad, especially Greece.

Hope you enjoy the Blog?

31/12/2010. Update. Turkey is proving to be a very interesting place, amazingly diverse and vibrant. Masses of history obviously and a climate that goes from blazing hot summers and freezing snow clad winters. Food costs are comparable with north Africa as long as you shop about the markets. Fuel cost is the biggest problem, petrol now nearly £2 a litre, diesel slightly less but fuel costs are steadily climbing. Vehicles are given three months in the country but it is normal to put your car in bond while you leave to get another three month visa. The vehicle is stamped into your passport so you cant leave without a bond recepit or driving it out. We take the foot ferry to Castelerizon, a Greek island opposite Kas, in the south. Our yacht is in Finike.
