Five Quick Questions

If I could only give one piece of advice...

Take twice as much cash as you think you need and half as much equipment.

The most essential thing I took with me

A sense of humour, patience and a smile. Now that’s three, but hey! one dont work without the other two.

The most useless thing I took with me (non-human)

12v heater.

Most ingenious self repair of the trip

Power steering box, turned the leaking seal upside down.

Would I recommend it?

Without a doubt.

Sandy goes to Africa

England to Cape Town (2009)
by redbook-2

We planned for 18 months; We packed our bags, left the jobs, rented the house out and went.   On the ferry we looked at one another and the full impact of what we had done registered. Oh heck, no crying off, no way to go back without completing the trip unless you want to look very, very sheepish to all and sundry and suffer the  "we told you so" brigade.

Cape Town and all the countries in between. Foolish, Adventurers, we don't know. But we do know we have had the trip of a life time and want more.

Meeting many people travelling the length and breath of Africa. Some by motorbike, 4x4, Truck, bicycle and on foot.  All of the same mind set. To see and to experience the different cultures in Africa. The camaraderie of all Overlanders is fantastic. Country of origin is irrelevant, everybody helps one another. You make new friends that you will always remember from all around the world.

The only way to see what is over the hill is to go and look!

We use a Landrover, just converting it into a 130 motorhome ready to go next year. Overlanding on foot of backpacking is not my idea of fun either, but no accounting for tast.
