Today we crossed into Chile from Argentina . We had been warned that you cannot take certain items across the border such as dairy produce , meat, fruit and vegetables. We also learnt that it is quite common practice to smuggle a few of these items through. So we took this advice and had a go. Once into Chile we discovered that the usual method is to use a secret cupboard or under the matress etc. I wish I knew this earlier as I am really not looking forward to getting this pineapple, 6 eggs and a large salami out of my arse.

Only joking..... there was only 4 eggs.

I have mentioned the wind here in Southern Patagonia. The strength is beyond belief.

Yesterday we had a bit of a disaster. We were parked at the border crossing from Chile into Argentina and for reasons unknown Pat opened her door.

The wind caught the door and she held on to the handle . She was thrown from her seat horizontaly out of the truck and landed about 3 meters away.

A man stopped to help and could not get near us. He was vrawling on his hands and knees against the wind to get to us.

I could not get the door shut against the wind .

This is the sort wind that blows trucks over.

Pat is ok. She is a bit battered and bruised. She needs to practice her landings.

This could have been a lot worse........ it could have been me .....Only Joking.

In all all seriousness the wind here is tough and you have to be careful

Blimey Neil and Pat!

I hope you are OK Pat? I cannot afford to come out there and visit you in hospital so please be careful!

That must have really hurt, makes me hurt thinking about it!

Thinking about you both always,

Mucho love,

We have decided to move on from Ushuaia , the most southerly town on the world.

I guess its north then

We are slowly heading for Chile. Its time for National Parks, lakes and Glaciers.

Small update

We are now parked about 5km south of Punta Arenes on the coast.

It is truly stunning here so cant see us moving for a few days.

Our drive south from Uruguay to Ushuaia was a bit frantic to get there for xmas. Our northern journey will be a lot slower. I have updated the blog but internet is getting harder and slower.

Loving Chile although i was a little disappointed to discover the the the Magellan Straits arent straight.

Neil
