De-mountable or other box for my leyland daf t244

Postby Dandy Dan » Wed Feb 15, 2017 9:27 pm

Hello. I am looking at options for putting a box on the flatbed of my new leyland daf t244 truck. I have spoken to L Jackson and co who have some very nice de-mountable worshops, but WOW! They are crazy expensive. I have tried David Crouch as well.

Does anyone know of anyone other than Witham who might have any interesting military or other truck body floating around they might want to sell. Has to be about 15 ft long.

Any ideas very welcome. Cheers. Dan

eBay is a good starting place if you haven't already tried.

There's much to be said for the 'shelters' that many of our mainland European neighbours favour. If you ask Mr Google about Dornier or Zeppelin shelters you'll see their features and qualities. Dornier especially lends itself to ready modification (there's a bit more about this in my book)

The T244 group in Germany are extremely helpful and welcome questions in English. If you can't find anything here, I'm confident they'll try their best to help you out.

After a nice road trip to Bulgaria and you could come back with one of these nicely insulated Kung boxes from a Gaz-66 or Zil 131

Great value and I am off to Bulgaria this weekend. Would it class as hand luggage?
Seriously I think that shape looks great on the back of a truck.

I have checked out the dornier 'shelters' and they do look very nice but they all seem to be 7 cm too short for the flatbed which is really annoying as they are much more affordable than the £7500 british ones from witham. I'll just keep looking. There has to be something out there. Cheers for all the suggestions. Dx
