When you build something such as a truck camper, you cannot recoup the cost of the thousands of hours invested in it.

For example if the project cost 80000 to build over 2 years, you cannot expect to sell it for 200000.

Agreed, but if you buy a commercially built truck you will pay for every minute of time spent on it.
In my opinion the value of a top-notch self-build is somewhere between the cost of the components and the price of an equivalent commercial truck.
Of course you need a buyer who can see past a brand name.
I agree Terratrotter is a super truck and I'm glad Elmer and Nicole have got a sale and hope the new owners enjoy it

For what it's worth, I'm working on a spreadsheet that will hopefully help self-build sellers calculate a reasonable initial asking price, and also help buyers work out what it might be reasonable to subsequently pay; once they've added in the all-important factor of subjective suitability.

Will start a new thread when it's ready to go - shouldn't be too long...

Returning to the original question on this thread, and for Roberts benefit, I noticed a LD T244 conversion has just be placed on eBay at 30k.
Looking at the photo's and spec it doesn't quite fit what I'm after but given I live near the seller I may go and have a look to see for sure. If anyone recognises it do let me know.

Hey Pete - could be interesting for me - if you're happy to have a look-see, let me know what you think? I'd need to rework the interior a lot (for 2 adults and 2 kids) but the price isn't mad if the build looks okay...

The conversion on eBay that I went to see looked well engineered and seems to no longer be listed, so may well have been snapped up.
This one looks more eclectic:

Cab rams will have their work cut out!

Was this the green truck? If so it is illegally registered and a pile of poo....

The weight was registered as something like 7.2t, but then they said that is with half fuel tank and half water, which would be 300L as they say they have Qty 2 300l water tanks.... no idea where they are though, so on full tanks it would be over weight before you start...
I does not have heating other than a wood burner...
It does not have a shower....
The loo seems to be the likes of a Porta-Loo, which themselves are a great bit of kit, but how do you use it?
It has a tiny 2 burner stove that you would have in a tiny van....
It looks to be very tall and then there is the chimney on top of that....
It does not have the necessary kit inside that it needs to be registered as a Motor Caravan...
They never built it to go travelling in, just to make a quick buck.... they also have some sort of boat they are/were building....

A member has been to see it, so maybe he will comment.....
Estimated value.... about 15K tops.....

I was trying to discuss how they registered it with them on the T244 FB page, but they did not reply in the end.... other T244 members came forward until it turned out they had also registered their truck illegally....

Seems to be rife in the T244 market, registering them as Gun Busses, Show Vehicles... all manner of things, then driving them as a Motor Caravan.

Bottom line, if purchasing a T244, check and check again to make sure it has been registered legally and correctly....

Also be aware that you can buy V5's from eBay with all the info on that you require...
NOTE. I am not saying this is the case with this truck, just that it can be done, and apparently is also rife in the Land Rover circles...

This is the interesting new one.
The one Brian refers to (& I and another viewed) is no longer listed. Looked a well engineered cabin but registration was lacking so best off steering clear.
