Welcome. I also plan to be on the Silk Route by early 23. I suggest that people on here will be able to assist you more if you give some further info such as number of people the living area needs to support, budget etc. I went to my first AO show in autumn and there was some big stuff for sale there and assume that this is regular. Happy truck hunting

One of the downsides of buying a rig that someone else has built is that the layout may not be exactly what you want or is ideal for you.
How many people does it need to accommodate etc?
There was or still maybe a T244 on EBay quite recently.
We have some friends with a Steyr 12M18 for sale which is a 2 berth layout but this maybe over budget, the truck is based in Germany and is very tidy.
If you're interested I'll pm you contact details.

As Bazza says, overlanders do pop up on ebay & gumtree and there are certainly a couple of options on there now.
Have a look at the beepbeepafrica blog too - Tom (past member of the forum) is selling his T244 after completing his trip.
Best of luck finding something suitable

If it's the one I am thinking of, I think it's being marketed at a slightly too high price.

It is however a very capable vehicle

I assume you mean the Terratrotter truck. Very nice rig, if you have the cash.

The market does indeed seem to be showing it as over-priced.
However, I think if you paid to have the same built you might not be far away money-wise and you'd have a time delay.

Neil, yes I was reffering to Elmer and Nicole's vehicle unfortunately that's the nature of the beast when you build something to your own spec the price escalates. And when it comes to valuing our own build I think that we can all be guilty of overvaluing our projects, after all they are only worth what the buyers are prepared to pay.
In Elmer's case the base vehicle that their platform is built on command high prices.
Hopefully they now have a buyer for it as they have taken a deposit on it.

Agreed.

When you build something such as a truck camper, you cannot recoup the cost of the thousands of hours invested in it.

For example if the project cost 80000 to build over 2 years, you cannot expect to sell it for 200000.

We know to the penny what we have spent on our truck. When we think of its market price i never imagine it would be more than we spent.

This truck is a great truck and will make a fantastic overlanding vehicle for it's new owners.

It hasn't been too far so should have another million km left in it

I wish the potential new owners all the best on their new adventures

Neil
