Hiya Tookey - we travel around in a MWB 4x4 Sprinter - 2 adults and 2 kids (now 6 and 9) - all short haul stuff to be honest (trips up to a couple of thousand miles at a time, during school holidays etc) - but the van is set up be off-grid capable and its served well over the last 5 years. Its starting to get tight now, as the kids are getting bigger, but for 2 adults and a little 'un, I think you could make a great overland vehicle. We get c500 miles on a tank of diesel, you can take it pretty much anywhere you would take a small van/4x4, unlike the bigger trucks, and its cheap on ferries, toll bridges, etc.

I should be at AO in September all being well, if you want a chat....

Hi Dave and thank you for the feedback. It is good to hear that a family of 4 did manage to live comfortably in a Sprinter. I have read that no vehicle will tick all the boxes and damn ain't that the truth! I can imagine that thousands of hours have been spent discussing the pro's and con's of various vehicle sizes as there are so many variables, advantages/disadvantages to be had

I will know what suits me at the end of the trip

Thanks for the kind offer to have a chat at the AO event but I will skip this year, take the plunge with a vehicle and turn up next year.............but maybe that's daft and I should come before I make a purchase :?

This Sprinter is fantastic.......dont have 21K so its an easy decision

but I do have 10k

Wish I wanted to start playing golf instead..............I bet choosing a set of clubs isn't this difficult!

If i were in your shoes I would try to get to the Show and talk to as many people as you can that have vehicles you've considered - most owners are happy to talk about their vehicles and their experiences. Its chatting to people that really makes the show worthwhile, TBH.

We're currently going through another circular discussion about whether or not to change our van for a bigger one as the kids are growing, especially if we start doing longer trips... but the Sprinter is so damn convenient and capable, its a tough decision!

Absolutely no disrespect intended; but yes, and yes.
