Check out prices for VERY ordinary off-the-peg front-wheel-drive van conversions. Just one example:

https://www.marquisleisure.co.uk/motorhomes/stock-item/auto-sleepers-warwick-xl

Bog standard motorhomes - including panel van conversions - often suffer from horrendous build quality (with some notable exceptions) and are ridiculously expensive.

Dealer-built all-terrain camper vans / overlanders are rare and it would be a good market to corner.

I know all about getting ripped off by an all-singing-all-dancing professionally converted van, lost a fortune on it, and nothing I or Trading Standards could do about it!

And they are still trading and ripping people off with very unsafe vehicles...

Which is why I am trying to build one myself....

Fair point re "normal" motorhomes - I was shocked how badly some of them are put together!

In the case of the Tranny here, you can buy a similar base vehicle for around £6k, i.e. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Transit- ... SwT2JZlU08
... so I'm struggling to justify the price, especially as some of the mods effectively limit what ground clearance and off road ability it once had.

I know my Sprinter 4x4 is home grown, but its an honest truck and at 20% of the price quoted here, I'm happy enough until I can build or buy a big'n :-)

Hey - my bad... I hadn't realised the vehicle wasn't new.

I now see it's a 2011 base vehicle with 97,000 miles.

Now I've actually opened my eyes I completely agree that it's a staggeringly optimistic price to ask.

I saw that, it looked like something you'd take to the pub so you look like the adventurous type. I was unimpressed but now I'm just gobsmacked. 55 grand? I bet the soppy off-roader thing doesn't even come with it.

To be fair, its 55k with the soppy off-roader thingy, 50k without.

Time to strap some unnecessary fripperies onto my van and make some money... :P
