Tramp Truck Build

Postby Ivan C » Sun Jul 29, 2018 10:38 am

Things are starting to happen with the truck, so I thought I'd start a build thread for anyone interested.
The original body is off, chassis shortened, and work started on the subframe.

Nice looking truck to start your project Ivan.

I like the way you are holding the hab chassis together before welding. That's a great idea.

Why Tramp Truck?

The name was Mrs Ivan's idea. We already have a Vagrant, so a tramp was the next logical step :D
Yes, my longest clamps weren't quite long enough and I didn't fancy buying another7 longer ones, plus I already needed one hole in the inner wall of the rails and the other will be covered by the outrigger.

Looking good Ivan.

I must admit, I just spent ages looking at that side on photo of your truck, comparing the cab similarities to the Steyr :D

Thanks Neil and Michael, it's good to have things happening at last.
Yes the MAN and Styer are quite similar, AO 19 maybe, no chance of 18 :o

Hey Ivan, you need to crack on, several months (at least 2) until the AO Show. You can do it :D

Looks good though, have fun

Thanks Andy, but as Clint said " a man's got to know his limitations"
Spent this morning putting a cradle together for picking up the panels from CVR on Thursday, ( no NI deliveries) and an order of "Banova" ply for the inside from Arnold Laver. It's balsa cored, hardwood faced with a 15mm 8x4 sheet weighing 10kg.
I've got a sample and it seems to hold screw well, cuts very clean and has a harder face than poplar.

Wait till you see what Phil had done to his shower room in his truck!

Let me just say, the 70's come to mind! Worse thing is that I actually like it!!!!

You have been warned!
