FAO Stan - Landcruisers

Postby jamest » Tue Jan 13, 2015 6:18 pm

Pasted my comment below :)

"Interesting you mentioned Landcruisers :) I need to replace my daily driver and as I am yet to have any off-road experiance I have been considering a Landcruiser, but don't know what to buy. Ideally my budget runs to about 5-8k, I could go more, but then it eats into the Truck fund. One issue I have though, At the moment I need to back and fore London weekly (120miles or so each way) so not sure if it would be suitable, maybe I should just buy a motorway car and spend less on a cruiser.

I would be interested in your thoughts.."

Hi
For that money you should be able to get a decent 80 series or even a 100 series, there was a 100 series recently for £8k that would be ideal.
They are good on the motorway being autos, but a bit thirsty especially if you have off-road tyres for the 4x4 stuff you'll want to do.
If you try and a get a car and then a cheap 4x4 you'll end up spending money on it, so it's a compromise somewhere
I'd go with an 80/100 personally, it'll hold it's value as well when it comes to selling to have the cash for your truck build, and you can still do camping/overlanding with it whilst the truck is being done ?

I've just bought an 80 series, coming from land rovers and a T5 volvo fuel consumption is all relative....BUT

Mine has an intercooler mod fitted which apparently improves economy, I reckon I'm getting about 30mpg on a run if you stick to under 70mph. round town or on twisty roads (on and off the power) it's a lot thirstier.
