Spring Overland Show

Postby Tookey » Fri Jan 31, 2020 7:01 pm

All,

I see that the OL show's are twinned with the 'international campervan show' in April, does this twinning make the show much different to what I experienced in autumn?

The September show in 2019 was twinned with a camper/motorhome show, so I don't think it will be much different really. As discussed a few times, the nature of the show is definitely changing, whether for good or ill really depends on what people want to take from it.

I may still come along in September.. but mostly to meet up with people rather than for the "show" itself.

oh, I hadn't realised, I hardly saw any motorhomes or traditional campers, guess the VW fans have plenty of their own events

I was promised better organisation this year, particularly the talks.

It would need someone with the appropriate capability and application to achieve this. This holds for all aspects of on-the-ground management for the entire duration of the actual event. Tom does a great job in enabling the show but consistently falls short with the detail whilst the event is actually in progress.

Tom is a capable enabler, but needs an event manager.

This did make me smile - its almost word-for-word what I told someone recently. With a little more organisation, the show could work. I'm unclear why Tom is not open to this... ho hum.

Hi guys, (different Tom here) I've been a bit absent from this forum with everything going on but I'm finally going to be able to make this show. Due to bad timings my truck has either been mid-build, in Africa, or on a boat.

Are there going to be other trucks from this forum there?

I have serious doubts this year....

Mainly because a lot of the members are actually out travelling! WHAT I hear you say! Overlanders actually committing overlanding! How dare they!

I certainly won't be there this year and I still have the "Overlander" banner here with me....

I think a lot of the FB T244 brigade will be there, some with their illegally registered trucks and what have you...... overweight/show vehicles/circus Vehicles/Gun busses.... you name it.... I did threaten to invite DVSA, just to see how many did not then turn up.....

Joking apart, I think there was as many as 12 T244's there last year, including some ridiculously expensive abortions.....

I'll be there.
I was explicitly told that Tom would have an event manager this year to handle the detail.
