DELETED/MISSING POSTS

Postby Zoltan » Tue May 03, 2016 7:38 am

Unfortunately two individuals recently decided they wanted to leave the forum and have asked for all of their posts to be deleted as well. As a result a lot of threads are now incomplete and simply won't make sense. A great deal of discussions are now ruined for everyone.
This is a great shame as it will be hard for anyone to work out what the discussion was about in some cases.
I'm posting this simply so that anyone new to the forum, trying to find information and struggling to work out why a historical post doesn't make sense can find an answer somewhere in the forum
Peace and happy travelling!

@admin

this "issue" came up on another 4x4 forum where a user wanted his account to be deleted and his posts removed. The solution there was in my view better: the t&c on the forum there (which you agree to when opening your account) state that
a) only the admin can delete a users account and
b) that comments/posts/pm made on the forum are "owned" by the forum.
The user there had his account removed by the mods but his posts remained online to avoid exactly what is happening here.
Maybe time to update the t&c here as well?

Cheers
Stefan

Maybe the bigger issue is why did two people (that were involved in so many posts) want to leave the forum?

Thanks zoltan for posting this, i was going to add something about the missing posts, so glad you have.
So two people have recently left and its caused a few issues.
When they asked me to delete their posts i didnt really take into account the knock on effect on the discussion, so thats my fault for doing it.
I think i may take your advice steffan and put some t&cs up that cover this.
They were active members and had their personal reasons to remove their online precesnce.
So they wanted to leave and i have accepted that and learnt from the mistake of deleting accounts.
For a long time this forum has been a very nice and amicable place for peole to discuss overlanding and in particular truck builds, i hope we can get back on track and continue this..
Thanks
Stan

I must echo your point here, my truck would never have been built without this forum and the help of its members. It will STAY on track and continue to be the best place for advice for truck builders in the UK. Even odd balls who pick a MAN base vehicle.

I agree totally with Steff and Stan, maybe we need some terms and conditions to cover this in the future.

I also think that if it is possible the forum should have a section that is only available to the members and not the general public. This would give members the opportunity to discuss sensitive matters in private.

What has happened has happened and we need to just move forward and collectively make this a place where you can ask any question or suggest any solution to a problem without fear that you are about to be attacked , ridiculed or asked to prove your point all the time.

This is a great place to chat. Banter is good , personal insults are unacceptable.

We don't need a discussion as to why they left, I think it was quite obvious. What we need to do is learn from the issue and move forward.

On a lighter note there is still room at Bad Kissingen and The HUBB

Stan,

Fully supported by this camp.

T&C's also seem the way to go to prevent future destruction of really excellent discussions and advice. What a waste :(

On the bright side we learn, and in the future we can have a team ball that cannot be taken away :D .

Why not send every existing member a PM and post it under "forum rules" that these are the new T&C and that by continuing to be active on the forum you agree to the new T&C?
