Wild Camping Forum

Postby Tookey » Sun Feb 16, 2020 9:54 am

I am finding the forum below very friendly and useful. As the name suggests it is about camping in your vehicle away from campsites. The majority of users are motorhome owners and the 'sister' forum is the motorhome techy site, but here its banter and wild camping stuff. There is a very good site app that uses google maps (inc mainland Europe) to show locations of public water taps, wc's and quiet rural car parks etc etc

There is other site associated location app stuff but I haven't investigated that further and it seems they have quite a few 'member discount' contracts set up with insurance companies and some 'kit' places I think.

I used to be on it a number of years ago, but got tired of the constant squabbling and fighting - maybe this has changed for the better.
I'm also not convinced of the wisdom of publicising campspots. Many times this leads to a dramatic increase in use, with a corresponding drop in consideration, leading to a ban for all.

I use park4night, but in the UK I have the same reservations about sustainability. I don't add English places.

A classic example of killing the goose that laid golden eggs.

Sites such as this quickly beget animosity, environmental impact and (much further down the line) height barriers - to name but three undesirable outcomes.

On the plus side, they help indicate where to avoid.
