Travelling, all being well

Postby sparks101 » Thu May 09, 2019 12:21 pm

:D
Hi Guys,

We have dates now for our trip, we are shipping to Canada on 30/06/19 and we follow on 05/07/19 to do Canada, USA and then south through Mexico (All being well).

I have started a blog page, although there is not much on it yet, just a welcome type page. I am still trying to get my head around it. But if you want to follow us there is an email link for that. If you register you automatically get a message when we update it. It would be great if you join us.

https://justoutforadrive.blog/

There should be a page eventually that shows where we are. If anyone ends up travelling close by let’s have a meet and a beer :-).

All the best guys,
cheers
Andy & Mandy

You must be excited for sure. I assume your shipping to Halifax?

Could you post any details of shipping agent etc etc to add to the resource on here?

Bon voyage !!

Glad for you both, but sad we did not have the pleasure of your company at the last show! It would have been good to have sent you on your way with a toast!

I blame Mandy for having her leaving doo!!! I can see where her priorities lye!! Bless...

I will be adding me to your followers as I am becoming an online stalker!

Be good and take great care both,

B.

Hi Lazz, yes we are shipping to Halifax from Liverpool using Martin McGowan at IVSS. It seems pretty straight forward. There is an inspection by Canadian Border people for dirt, seeds etc under the vehicle but I am getting it all undersealed just before we leave.
Vehicle insurance was sorted by Thum Insurance (Sue Blood) in USA. The only company we found that would insure up to 30 yrs old. Our truck is 28 yrs this year. We are also taking a bike, BMW 650.
Medical insurance came from True Traveller that was put up to us by Neil & Pat. This also seems pretty comprehensive.
In Canada you get 6 months for ourselves and vehicle to remain without a formal visa. There is an electronic application that has to be completed. For the USA we had to formally apply for a visa and visit the US Embassy for a brief interview. Not too much hassle but cost $190 odd, each. The esta system does not work for our duration!
What could go wrong! :D :D

That's great info Sparks, thank you.

How long are you allowed in the USA? From my initial enquiries, it would appear it's only 3 months. I've been led to believe that the clock starts ticking as soon as you cross the US border.

Leaving the USA to go back to Canada or onward to Mexico, does not stop the clock allegedly. So if you get to Alaska, that starts the clock...

We got a 6 month visa for US, no problem, and we intend to extend there. Alaska would cause us a problem as you say, so unlikely to get there, unfortunately.
Just be aware of the EPA exemption for your vehicle(s)! Once you use it to enter the US your vehicle only has 12 months from the date of entry for you to leave their customs union! This includes Canada and Mexico.
You need to have an EPA to enter the US at a sea port, but research suggests you are not asked for it at a land border, if not asked, do not produce it. https://www.epa.gov/importing-vehicles-and-engines It is a very confusing site, but i emailed them and they responded with the exemption route. I can let you have the details if you PM me with an email address.

Our ship has been dry docked! We are now sailing from Southampton.
This has caused some problems because to get cheaper fares I had booked train tickets to get myself back to the smoke! So if anyone wants to travel from Liverpool to London on Friday 28th June 2019 about 1347hrs, I have a ticket going  .

Flexibility, ned more exercise :D - Upwards and onwards.

I have not posted much lately but we have quite a lot going on with preparations !

cheers
