All,
I've been a very infrequent viewer on this site for a long time, I've only posted a few times but I would not like to see the site disappear as with some other sites that others have managed to migrate over to Facebook, I point blank refuse to have a Facebook account or anything else like that!
I may be loosing out but am I Bovered? I don't think so!
So Zoltan if you do take over the site admin I hope that others will support you and the site, other forums survive I sincerely hope that this one can and Does!

It's a generous offer and weighty contribution Lazz. Appreciated.

There are lots of alternatives and - as has been mentioned - the core members have sort of momentarily half migrated to the HUBB / ExPo before. Both are international and have some knowledgeable and experienced contributors.

Facebook is both morally bankrupt and poor as a forum medium; though it is useful for exacerbating mental health issues, giving the asinine and feckless a platform, and pictures of other people's food.

There are some providers who claim at least to offer free forum hosting; one example: https://www.proboards.com/ but I have no idea how good or bad these are. I suspect that IF the idea is to migrate the entire contents of this forum to another host in order to preserve the dataset then that will NOT be free.

It's a shame that different overlanding sub-groups aren't all represented in one UK-based 'umbrella' forum. I know Stan had a vision for such a thing but only the 'heavy' brigade really ran with it. There are many forums out there that deal with niche brands and it's not unreasonable to think that an individual / organisation with an overview would see an opportunity to host an umbrella forum and take the opporunity to market products / services. Just off the top of my head Tom McGuigan / Euro ExPo / Overland Sphere might be interested in developing / creating a platform. OS for one have the structure already: https://overlandsphere.com/overland-forum/ and I would think should be able to import Stan's dataset.

Watching with gratitude and interest...

I'd be disappointed to lose it. I visit most days.
I'm also not a facebook user and have the same view of it as expressed above. I don't have an issue paying for the forum. I also use the Russian forum daily and donate to it.
I've slowed down in my posting recently mainly due to photobucket pricing itself out. I haven't got round to registering with another photo host as I'm concerned they'll do the same and lose my posted pictures. I find photos really helpful when going back through posts looking for information on problems and procedures but I understand embedding them in the forum has a cost.

John, that's the problem with the site as it currently is. To be able to embed pics, have a useable and sensible search function, and allow a host off other features that make a forum useable and accessible, has a cost element.

I wasn't seeking donations, nor did I want to take over the site for any personal gain. I just thought it would be a shame to lose the resource and enquired if anyone had picked up the mantle. Ultimately, I don't need to do this and I have little intention of persuing it if there is no appetite or objection from the forum, or indeed someone else has a workable and viable solution that they want to pick up. Like all of you, I have other things to do with my life.

However, this may go nowhere as it's still up to Stan. I will wait to have a meaningful discussion with him about this and revert.

Lazy.

I would think that nobody will object to your ideas. It is a very viable solution.

Good luck and thanks

well i am not "web " savvy, so can't help with the actual running of the site, but i can provide a server in a data center to run the site on. At no cost. all you have to do is get the web gurus to load the site to the server and away you go.

Hi Lazz - agree with the above - very much appreciate the offer, and whilst this site isn't heavy in terms of traffic, the information here is great.

Also... best description of Facebook I've seen in a while - made me smile, at least.

Hi all, thank you once again for your generous help offer Lazz, I am sure we all appreciate your offer.

I, like others, am not at all knowledgeable regarding Forums and such, so will go with the flow, as I have said before.

I am on two pages on Twitface, DAF T244 stuff, but apart from that, may it burn in hell.... and it will.... I think most of the good guy's on there are also members on here, at least the members that are building a Motor Caravan....

Long may this Forum last!

PS. Can anyone get the notifications working again??? Please???
