I agree, I am now legally allowed to drive vehicles I wouldn't have the first clue about. But I didn't make the rules :D

Madness isn't it? When I learned ( a lifetime ago) it was double de-clutching, transmission-clutch brakes and the like....miss a shift going up hill and it was roll to a stop and start again...miss one going down hill and you were in real doo-doo.........but we learned to respect the laws of physics sharpish.............

Absolutely no disrespect aimed at you, but the standards of large vehicle driving these days are abysmal...because they are too easy to "drive"..... in my opinion.

None taken, it's called progress nowadays. But I agree that a lot of the skill has gone from hgv driving

When I did my hgv one of the first trucks I drove after had a Eaton twin split. Nightmare.

Then drove a 66 Bedford with a twin split rear axle. That was horrible to drive. Couldn't get the hang of that at all.

Not HGV but I couldn't get a clean change in the Gaz-66 4 speed gearbox whatever I tried- so I changed both the engine and gearbox and now it's happy days!
