8 x 8 x Oooops...

Postby crinklystarfish » Wed Jul 13, 2016 6:51 am

Spotted on the local lanes out on my bike ride yesterday evening.

The perils of heavy (especially top heavy) vehicles and soft ground.

It was obvious the driver had - for whatever reason - dropped his offside front wheel off the edge of the tarmac and had then been pulled into the soft stuff - sinking ever deeper as he went - until coming to a stop and then toppling over.

The tyre scrub-marks were his own nearside fronts as they were dragged sideways as he went in...

Whoops! How embarrassing......

The grass verge does not look too bad so makes you wonder about the off road ability of these cranes, although the many wheels are probably more for weight distribution and slippery conditions.....

Good view of some of the running gear components..... looks complicated!

I remember as a very young lad out cycling near Cambridge, seeing a "Linear engined" train, now called "mag-lev" sitting in a ditch as it fell off its transporter whilst being exported from England to the USofA IIRC. It was sat on top of a concrete "track" but the drivers turned too sharply and it fell off..... Maybe in the 1970's?

Good find Steve,
