Its a bit like the truck version of grand designs, i keep expecting Kevin to walk around the corner going " will it work? there is so much to do in such a short time, will it fall off the back in Mongolia?". Other similarities are the budget is blown away, the work load has doubled and the 'moving in' date has slipped, but hey ho we are building a house on wheels !

We have managed to clad the back of the box, most of the roof and are onto the front behind the cab. Steve the welder came back last night and did some more frame work as we have now worked out the exact locations for the windows. Just need them to arrive now- their delivery date has changed as well.

And in typical 'Grand designs' format the stuff ordered from Germany arrived on time and intact just as they said it would !
So we now the main door, skylight and some locker doors to play with..

The overall construction is taking shape, its been a long process working out the best method of cladding the truck, but we have settlrd on 4mm ply glued with sykafex to 1.2mm alumnuim sheets, and then riveted and glued to the stainless frame. Its looking pretty solid, but it is slow work, but we do want it to look good.(A square 'Airstream' effect!?) Splashed out today and bought an air rivter, thank god as theres a lot of riveting to do..

Having the usual hassles with sourcing various parts. Now on the lookout for a manual flush LH cassette toilet, and still waiting for the water tanks to arrive. Its all good fun !!

I'm feeling your pain too. At the moment I am rebuilding an old Merc school bus into an overland vehicle, with my two assistants Lucy(9) and Ben(
Its the same ally on steel construction as your box. One thing Ive learnt is that you should use auto-tape (thin foam doubelsided adhesive) tape between steel and ally to prevent corrosion. I'm screwing it all back together. If I never see another rivot I'll die happy.
An overland driver suggested that I should take a rivot gun and a box of rivots with me for the journey.
